Ms. Bonnie Kennedy Hilmer, 89, formally of Blackville, South Carolina, met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by her family and the staff of Anchor Post Acute, who was part of her family on May 7, 2026. “Granny” who was affectionally known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, made Anchor Post Acute her home for the past eight years as her health declined.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from two-thirty p.m. until three-thirty p.m. at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, South Carolina. A celebration of life service will follow at three-thirty p.m. in the chapel of Folk Funeral Home. Pastor Jim Parnell will officiate. Interment will follow at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery (by the airport) with Pastor Jeremy Creech officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Windfield Heights Christian School 315 Chester St., Williston, SC 29853.
Born in Barnwell, South Carolina, Granny was one of four daughters, born to the late William Kennedy and Lillie Ray Kennedy; and was married to the late Edward Hilmer.
Prior to her health declining, Granny was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Granny exemplified her traits of love, carrying, and kindness, which she showed during her employment with Roper Hospital where she cared for her patients in their time of need. After her tenure with Roper Hospital, she became a homemaker where she cared for family, making special meals, keeping her grandchildren when needed, and simply just being available for any of her family when needed. She was truly the meaning of a self-less servant and never met a stranger. The smell of homemade cooking when folks entered her home was one of a kind. If you left her home hungry, it was your own fault.
Bonnie’s survivors include a son, Cecil “Rodney” Hutto of Barnwell, South Carolina and a daughter, Wanda Singletary (Toby), both of Elko, South Carolina; Grandchildren, Chris Hutto (Patricia) of Barnwell, South Carolina, Cathy Garcia (Tino) of Blackville, South Carolina, Bryan Singletary (Rachael) of Trenton, South Carolina, and David Hutto (Amber), of Long Branch, South Carolina; twelve great grandchildren; and several great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by a son, Randy Hutto, stepson, Edward “Wardie” Hilmer; three sisters, Betty Rowell, Delma Hair, Rachel Saunders; three brothers, L.B. Kennedy, C.B. Kennedy, and Billy Kennedy.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to the staff and nurses at Anchor Post Acute and Gentiva Hospice where she received exceptional care. The family also would like to recognize and thank Bonnie’s CNA, Kathy Woodward of Anchor for everything you have done for Bonnie throughout the years, and Bonnie’s roommate Barbara Johnston, for being there and providing the love and support during Bonnie’s time of need.
