Billy Gainey, Jr. Obituary

Funeral Services for William E. “Billy” Gainey, Jr., 88, of Williston, SC will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Friday, May 19, 2023 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend John O’Cain officiating; burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given in Mr. Billy’s memory to the Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Mr. Billy passed away at home on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Born in Snow Hill, NC he was a son of the late William E. Gainey, Sr. and Sara Edith Kitchings Gainey and for 63 years was married to the late Patricia “Pat” Barbieri Gainey. He worked as a lab tech for E.I. DuPont, a site supervisor for Chem-Nuclear and was parts manager at Roy Leopard Chevrolet for several years. Mr. Billy also owned and operated Gainey’s Amoco Gas Station and also managed Rock’s Pond Campground. He retired as a Resident Maintenance Engineer Supervisor from the South Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and also served in the Army Reserves. Mr. Billy loved outdoors being close to nature and wildlife.

Survivors include his sons, William Dean (Connie) Gainey of Neeses, SC, John Michael “Mike” Gainey, Richard Lee “Rick” Gainey, James Edward “Jeep” (Dawne) Gainey, Phillip Wyman (Kym) Gainey all of Williston, SC and Daniel Wiley (Meredith) Gainey of Aiken, SC; 13 grandchildren, Tara (Dillon) Bethea, Michael (Kimberly) Gainey, Sara (John) Melton, Josh Gainey, Austin Gainey, Jacob Gainey, Adam Gainey, Billy (Ansley) Gainey, Bailey Gainey, Lawson Gainey, Alex Stone, Ashely Stone, and Summer Gainey; 9 great grandchildren, Rebecca (Matthew) Sanders, Alex Bethea, Kaden Buckland, Xander Gainey, Conway Gainey, Colin Dillow, John Michael Gainey, III, Cataley Gainey, and John Calvin Melton, III, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

In addition to his wife, Pat, he was preceded in death by a baby brother, a sister, Sara Ann Gainey and a grandson, Seth Gainey.
