Funeral services for Betty Lee Collins Sandifer, 89, of Blackville, SC will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Andy Sandifer officiating; burial will follow in the Sandifer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Honored to serve as pallbearers are her great grandsons, Austin Davis, Colin Hutto, Jackson Hutto, Weston Sandifer, Chandler Zissett, and Chanston Zissett and Honorary Pallbearers will be her great grandsons, John Luke Hutto and Channing Zissett. Memorial contributions may be given to Edisto Hospice of Orangeburg, 1180 Boulevard St., Suite C, Orangeburg, SC 29115. Mrs. Betty passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Born in Barnwell County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Howell Collins and Alma Still Collins and was married to the late Joseph Rhett “Cotton Picker” Sandifer for 65 years. She attended school at the Hilda Community Center and graduated from Blackville School. During her youth, she was the pianist at Salem Methodist Church until Rhett proposed to her on the church steps; they married in 1954. She worked along Rhett’s side on the farm and also at the Farmer’s Produce Market in Denmark for many years. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denmark and was wonderful cook who loved to cook for her children and grandchildren especially for special occasions and holidays. She also enjoyed painting and coloring in books and working in her yard. She loved her four children deeply and they will miss her beyond measure.
Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Sandifer Martin and Donna Sandifer (Mike) Lott all of Barnwell; sons, Steven Rhett “Steve” (Cynthia) Sandifer of Barnwell and Terry (Paula) Sandifer of Blackville; grandchildren, Stephanie Sandifer Yeary (Kevin) Rhoad, Steven Jeffery “Jeff” (Mindy) Sandifer, Courtney Virginia, NP (Bradford) Drawdy, Rebecca “Becky” (Chris) Zissett, Jessica Sandifer Hutto, LPN (fiance Jackie) Ray, Gregory Jason (Stephanie) Davis, David Joseph (Tara) Berry, Brandon Mark Berry, Matthew Foy Fields, Seth Logan (Tina) Fields; great grandchildren, Leslee (Kyle) Baker, Harlee Yeary and fiancé Wyatt Bruner, Weston Rhett, Rilee, Jackson, Bhrettlee, John Luke, Chandler, Chanston, Channing, Colin, Kaylin, Austin, Caylee, Harper, Hartlee, Natalee, Rowan, and Sawyer along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and her loyal companion, Smokey.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael C. Martin.
