Betty Barwick Obituary

Funeral services for Betty Widener Barwick, 86, of Windsor, SC will be held at two o’clock p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Windsor First Baptist Church with the Reverend Jody Padgett officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. The family requests that face masks be worn during the visitation and the funeral. Memorial contributions may be given in Mrs. Betty’s memory to Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; you may visit www.stjude.org/memorial or the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. Mrs. Betty passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pruitt Home Health and Empyrean Hospice of South Carolina for all of the love, care and compassion that they have shown to Mrs. Betty and her family.

Born in Aiken County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Willie Widener and Bertha Key Widener and was the widow of James Edward Barwick whom she married on May 14, 1955. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Windsor for 74 years where she was baptized at Cold Creek at the age of 12. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and also served in various other capacities at the church. She was a 1954 graduate of Windsor High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. Mrs. Betty was involved in the town of Windsor where she served on the Windsor Town Council for 20 years and for many years organized and directed the town Christmas parade. She retired as a Security Escort from Savannah River Site after working for 39 years. She was noted for baking delicious cakes and always was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and she enjoyed traveling while her health permitted. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Dennis) Padgett of Warrenville, SC and Sharon Lemons of Martinsville, VA; a son, Barry E. Barwick of Windsor, SC; a sister Bertha Mae Darnell of Blackville, SC; grandchildren, James (Jenny) Padgett, Travis (Leigh) Padgett, Mandee Owens, Dusty Lemons, Jessie (Fred) Bordelon and Courtney Barwick; great grandchildren, Landon, Declan, Jaxson, Kloee, Kaleigh, James, Kayden and Nevaeh along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, James Barwick, she was preceded in death by hers sons, Gary and Jerry Barwick; sisters, Rosena Ingram, Bebe Cushman, Blondie Davis, and Dorothy Widener and a brother, Cecil Widener.
