Barbara Sewell Singleton was born in Tate, GA on March 7, 1931. Her parents were Harold and Troyce Sewell. Barbara was the valedictorian of Barnwell High School in the class of 1949. This was the first class to attend all twelve years in the Barnwell School District. She attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC. Barbara was blessed to have had three wonderful husbands, all of whom are pre-deceased: Roy Douglas Hill (8 years marriage). Jack Dewey Wix (25 years marriage) and Eugene Pershing Singleton (28 years marriage). Barbara worked for the Bank of Barnwell which had several name changes for 23 years. Barbara loved her family and spent a lot of time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren during her life, and especially during the last four declining years.
Barbara's family included- Brothers-Harry Sewell, pre-deceased (Dorothy), Michael Sewell (Nancy). Children- Karen Jeffers, Kim Rutland (John), Craig Wix (Trina), Delores Neal (Tim).
Grandchildren- Kacy Sewell, Jason Rutland (Shelli), Michael Jeffers (Tammy), Jonathan Rutland (Elizabeth), Chloe Wix, Charlee Wix, Jamie Weaver (Freddie), Troy Weaver (pre-deceased), Janet Weaver and Cammy Canup (Allen). Great Grandchildren- Collins Rutland, Norah Rutland, Emma Rutland, Natalie Jeffers, Jack Jeffers, Colin Jeffers, Emily Canup and James Canup.
The family would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice Team of Aiken, SC (Rev. Tony, Dawn, Cierra and Kayla) for all the loving care given to our mother over the last year.
The family will receive friends from one to two o’clock p.m., on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Red Door Hagood Baptist Church, 120 Franklin St, Barnwell, SC. Funeral services will be held at two o’clock p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2025 with Dr. Brandon Sandifer and Reverend Tony Christie officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport.
