A private family graveside funeral service for Barbara Whitesell Allen, 89, of Williston will be held three p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2020 in the Williston Cemetery with the Reverend Charles Morris officiating. Pallbearers will be Andy Deering, Jim Melvin, Dale Rogers, Michael Allen, Michael Schumpert and Brett Williams. Memorial contributions may be given to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 1077 Hwy. 39, Williston, SC 29853 or the Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Barbara passed away at home on Thursday, April 2, 2020.
Born in Blacksburg, SC she was a daughter of the late Carl Holt Whitesell and Mattie Sophie Shillinglaw Whitesell and was married to the late David Walter Allen. Barbara was a Sunday School teacher, member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for many years, and retired from the Admiral Corporation. She loved her animals and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds; she was a true southern lady, loving mother and grandmother. Barbara was the youngest and the last of the Whitesell siblings and was always kind to everyone she met.
Survivors include her children, Linda Schumpert of Elko, Frankie (Brenda) Allen of Williston, Debra (David) Deering of Williston and Karen (Ronnie) Rogers of Montmorenci; grandchildren, Rhonda (Michael) Allen, Jim (Sabeen) Melvin, Summer Owens, Andy (Carla) Deering, Dale (Salinda) Rogers and Katie (Brett) Williams; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a brother-in-law Larry Allen of Blacksburg, SC.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Marty Schumpert; a grandson, Jason Schumpert; two sisters, Betty Moore and Carolyn Robbs and a brother, Carl H. Whitesell, Jr.
