William Carter Obituary

Another brave soldier has received his final deployment.  World War II Veteran, William (Bill) Carter, Jr., aka “Sam”, at age 96 passed away in his sleep on May 13, 2019 in Winter Garden, Florida.  Born on March 30, 1923 to Latrelle Morgan Carter and William H. Carter, Sam was raised on his family’s farm in the Morgantown Community near Springfield, South Carolina.

During his lifetime, Sam accomplished much.  He helped raise his brothers and sister.  He became a soldier and proudly served in the U. S. Army.  During his WW II military career he was deployed to Iwo Jima and shared many stories about those harsh times.  After being discharged, Sam went on to work at the Kennedy Space Center and later retired from Walt Disney World in 1987.  He loved to hunt and fish, was an avid reader, and loved to debate politics and became a Springfield Town Council member in his late 80’s.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Asyl and James; sister, Sylvia; his youngest son, Kennedy; and very special friend, Sarah Franklin.

He is survived by his children Sharyn Carter Hill, Scott Carter, Stephen Carter, and Valery (Gary) Tucker, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and Sarah’s daughter, Beth (Steve) Morrone.
