Funeral services for Ted New, Sr., 87, of Barnwell, SC, will be held one o’clock p.m., Friday, April 12, 2019 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with the Reverends June Still and Timmy Gunnells officiating; burial will be in the Living Waters Baptist Church Cemetery, Barnwell, SC. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Thursday, April 11th at the funeral home. Mr. Ted went home to meet the Lord and to be reunited with the one true love of his life, Willie Mae, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren.
Born in Orangeburg County, SC, he was a son of the late Pickens Qcell New and Bealuh Williams New and was married to the late Willie Mae Chavis New. He was a self-employed logger and was a man of many talents. He was a farmer, lineman, brick mason, vegetable packer, well digger, cotton picker and pastor. He had the physical strength and work ability of several men. He loved going to church and faithfully served the last 7 years as a deacon at True Vine Ministries.
Survivors include his children Nancy (Lee) Fulmer, Jane (Paul) Hinckley all of Barnwell, Ted (Mellissa) New, Jr. of Blackville; Lois (David L.) Still, Sr. of Barnwell; grandchildren, Paul Hinckley, Jr., Pamela (Harvey Jay) Hinckley, Tabitha (Homer) Chavis, David L. (Tori) Still, Jr., Tiffany Still, Bruce (Wendy) Grubbs, Tammy (Ricky) Still, Jason (Megan) Kennedy; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous other family members.
In addition to his wife, Willie Mae New, he was preceded in death by his sisters Lottie Chavis, Dorothy Fields, Polksy Herron, Margie Spires, Retha Mae Chavis, Bulah Mae New; a half-sister Maria; brothers, Raymond New, Sylvester New, I.J. New, Johnnie New and Willard New.
