Samuel "Sammy" Allan Hand, Jr.

Funeral services for Samuel Allan “Sammy” Hand, Jr., 78, of Denmark, SC, will be held at two o’clock p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Bamberg County Office on Aging, P.O. Box 6, Bamberg, SC 29003 or the Bamberg County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 443, Bamberg, SC  29003. Sammy passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019.

Born in Bamberg, SC he was a son of the late Samuel Allen Hand, Sr. and Eunice Williams Hand. Sammy was a graduate of Carlisle Military Academy in Bamberg, following high school he joined the U. S. Air Force and in 1979, he retired as Master Sergeant with 24 years of service. Following his military retirement, Sammy worked as a security guard for Chem-Nuclear Systems and retired after working for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Daphne Murdaugh Hand; a daughter Tammy (Adam) Rohrbaugh of Grovetown, GA; a son Allan (Bob) Hand, III of Leesville, SC; sister Nancy Hand Green of Bamberg; nephews Craig (Karen) Threatt, Chris Threatt, Marty (Laura) Murdaugh, Doug (Kim) Murdaugh; brother-in-law Doug (Johnnie Ruth) Murdaugh; step-granddaughter Shelby Rohrbaugh and a dear friend Jane Richardson.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Pruitt Health Care Bamberg for the care and kindness shown to Sammy during his illness. Special thank you to Anthony Nimmons and Kenny for being good friends to Sammy.
