Rollis Evans Obituary

Funeral services for Rollis B. Evans, 73, of Williston, SC will be held three p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Rosemary Baptist Church (intersection of Fellowship and Deering Road), Williston, SC with the Reverend Dan Fogle officiating; burial will be in the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from five to eight p.m., Monday, October 22nd at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC and other times at the home. Pallbearers will be Mike Baxley, Bubba Bolen, Jeff Holley, Steve Jowers, Raymond Lott and Gerald McDonald. Memorials may be given to Rosemary Baptist Church, P.O. Rollis passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018.

Born in Barnwell County, SC, he was a son of the late William Coursey Evans and Nellie Kinard Evans Dandridge. He was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church where he was baptized, married, taught Sunday School and was once the Youth Director. Rollis worked at the Savannah River Site in Configuration Management as a Nuclear Engineer. In 2003, Rollis was diagnosed with COPD and pulmonary fibrosis. In 2010, Rollis received a lung transplant at Duke Hospital. As a lung transplant recipient he played in the First Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by the Lung Transplant Foundation in 2014. Rollis was a champion avid golfer; he was instrumental in starting and managing the Senior Inter-Club Match Play Competition at the Williston County Club, Sweetwater Country Club in Barnwell and the Paw-Paw Country Club in Bamberg from 2014 to 2017. In addition to golf, Rollis enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served during the Vietnam Era as an Aircraft Mechanic.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years Patricia “Pat” Carrigg Evans; his daughter and son-in-law Amy and Jim Simmons all of Williston; his sisters Judy (Steve) Matzen, Linda Frenandez, Tari Warmelink; a brother Lewis (Jill) Wilson; brothers and sisters-in-law Leon (Patsy) Carrigg, Leroy (Vivian) Carrigg; sisters-in-law Grace Gunnells, Lillian Lindsey Ensor, Brenda Bell; grandchildren Joshua (Brittany) Simmons, Amber (Jamey) Dowless, Ethan (Crystal) Simmons; great grandchildren Hayleigh & Hunter Simmons, Hope & JJ Dowless; special cousins Paul Kinard, Danny Ostrowski and numerous additional cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters Diane Thompson, Catherine Stehle; brothers Randy Drake, Murel Wilson and Jack Evans.
