Funeral services for Norman J. “Jaybird” Williams, 72, of Blackville, SC will be held two o’clock p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with burial in the Springfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Thursday, January 10th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Folk Funeral Home, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Jaybird passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019.
Born in Barnwell County, SC, he was a son of the late Velton Williams and Aline Williamson Williams Mitchell and his adopted parents J. L. and Deloris Gleaton. He previously worked at Ducane on the assembly line and in the log woods. Jaybird was the coolest “Papa” that his grandchildren could have ever asked for; he loved his flowers, football, gardening and being outside enjoying God’s creation. He was a wonderful husband to Roberta, was a great provider for his family and was the strongest man his family ever knew.
Survivors include his wife, June Roberta Churchwell Williams; his children, Linda “Aline” (Eldon) Kennedy, Penny “Poochie” (Charles) Carroll, Norman Curtis “Buckwheat” (Jennifer) Williams, Ronnie “Rock” (Shanetta) Carrigg, Jr., and Taylor “Tee Tee” Carrigg; a sister, Virginia “Ginny” Widener; adopted sisters and brothers, Neb Davis, Ann Pernell, Jimmy Gleaton, Laura Gordon, Helen Bruner, Jerry Gleaton, Johnny Gleaton, Shirley Baker; grandchildren, Eldon (Candace) Kennedy, Jr., Lyndon Kennedy, Ashley Chavis, Megan Carroll, Henry Carroll, Austin Williams, Santana Williams, Jasmine Williams, Kian Bodie, Ashanti Kennedy, Clayton Kennedy, Selena Kennedy, Christian Kennedy; great grandchildren, Olivia Kennedy, Drayton Carroll, Orlando Reed, Dawayne Carrigg, and Amber Chavis.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Vonette “Dolly” Williams, Mary Williams and his brothers Wilton, Benny, Buster Gene, Willie, Cecil and Joseph Williams.
