Dot Tatum, age 91, passed away peacefully on 22 April 2024. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Bamberg on 11 May 2024 at 1 PM. Visitation with family will be after the service at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
Dot was born in Denmark and was the daughter of Daisy Hutto Creech Hightower and Ruby Lee Creech. She was a lifelong resident of Bamberg County. She was married to Clark B Tatum (deceased) and had 4 children. She was pre-deceased by her second husband, John Henry Savage, brother R. L. Creech and son, James Watson Tatum. She worked as a bookkeeper and manager at Cox’s Women Clothing store and Mid-State Mobile Homes. She served 2 terms on Bamberg County Council and as Chairperson of County Council 2002 and 2007.
She is survived by 3 of her children: Cynthia Tatum Voris (John), Charles R Tatum (Marilyn), and Elizabeth Tatum Blume (Eddie), sister, Lou Hightower Fairy (Kelley), 7 grandchildren: Susan M. Tatum, Bryan Charles Tatum (Katherine), Andrew Charles Voris(Sara), Elizabeth Voris Davis, Christina Elizabeth Angsten, Robert Cooper Angsten (Lindsay) and Caroline Amelia Tatum and 6 great grandchildren: Daniel and Charlotte Davis; Cooper, Hannah and Margaret Voris; and Finley Tatum
The family would like to acknowledge Mrs. Tammy Smoak, the employees of Edisto Hospice and Magnolia’s of Walterboro who all assisted in the compassionate care of Dot. We could never thank you enough! We would also like to thank Isaac James for his long and tireless service to Dot.
