O'Neal "BoPeep" Barr July 13, 2010
Funeral services for Virgil O’Neal “BoPeep” Barr, 84, of Springfield, SC, will be held eleven a.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Springfield, SC with burial in the Springfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 537 Long Point Road, Suite 203, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 150 Hi Cotton Lane, Springfield, SC 29146. The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m., Thursday, July 15th at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC. Mr. Barr passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010.
Born in Springfield, SC he was a son of the late Herman Carroll Barr and Ruby Caughman Barr. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for more than 30 years. He was a self-employed farmer and was employed by Duct Tape and Bailing Wire Inc. and was formerly employed with Folk Funeral Home, Inc. He was a champion bar-b-que cooker, he always wanted to help people and never expected anything in return; he was never in a hurry. Some of his favorite sayings were: “everything will be alright”, “the meat will be ready in just a few minutes”, “that’ll work”, “now listen to the old man”, BoPeep loved his family, friends and his church.
Survivors include his wife, Ray Hallman Barr of the home, daughter, Joan Jeffcoat of Lexington; son, Timmy (Margaret Ann) Barr and other son, James Brown all of Springfield; brothers, Billy (Lois) Barr, Allen “Tom” (Betty) Barr; grandchildren, Shannon (Daniel) Lake, Kevin O’Neal (Sherri) Jeffcoat, Ashley (Cliff) Williamson, Kyle Barr; great grandchildren, Taylor and Mallory Williamson, Ethan and Brooke Jeffcoat. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Wheeler Barr. The family would like to give a special thank you to Community Hospice of Columbia, Dr. Tabitha Adams and Staff.
