Roy, 75, formerly of Dry Prong, Louisiana, passed away at his home in the presence of his wife and children after a courageous battle with cancer. Roy graduated from Dry Prong High School in Louisiana and came to Blackville in 1952. He worked at Boylston Feed and Seed until he was employed at DuPont in 1955. Roy held offices including president of the Blackville Jaycees, as well as president of the Jefferson Davis Academy Booster Club in Blackville, SC. Roy donated many hours to the community through his efforts as captain of the Blackville Rescue Squad and as volunteer fireman. He was also a member of Double Pond Baptist Church.
Roy was active with his children and grandchildren as a little league baseball coach and avid supporter of their many games and events. He was instrumental in the development and maintainence of the Jefferson Davis Academy football field in Blackville, SC. After 40 years of devoted service to DuPont/Westinghouse, he retired and concentrated on his true love of gardening, fishing the Edisto River, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. Roy was greatly admired and loved in his community for his quiet humor, for his perseverance and for his willingness to help others. We thank the Lord for providing our family with a father of such fine character who never grumbled or complained regardless of what he faced in life. It was that character that he leaves as legacy to the family he truly devoted his life to.
Roy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy; sons, Terry and Rodney (Kelli); grandchildren, Katelyn, Gabbie, Hamilton and Ellie; great grandson, Braxtyn; brothers, Bob (Sharon) Rhinehart, Glynn (Lana) Rhinehart; Doug Rhinehart, sisters, Elaine (Everett) Sheldon, Margaret (Fred) Beach and Faye (Max) Williamson; and many nieces and nephews.
